With their precise yet lyrical line quality and sumptuously rich colors, Amanita’s silk paintings capture the elemental essence of water, movement and balance.
Using unique compositional angles derived from her photographic background she creates strong contrasts in the weight and structure of the painted image. Areas of extreme focus are played against large atmospheric sections. Drawing the eye across and inside the image.
The medium of ink on silk is ancient and connects in this work to the history of chinese silk paintings with their craggy rocks and mist enshrouded landscapes. In Amanita’s hands, water and mist seem to flow effortless into the valleys and canyons, and the minute detail of branches and leaves curl and twist with an exceptional natural grace.
